Located in the middle of the South Island, only 90 minutes from Christchurch, Mt Hutt is where you’ll find the most reliable snowfall in the Southern Hemisphere. It’s season begins around the 10th June and usually runs into early October.

Mt Hutt is high and it’s wide. Most days at the summit you can see from one side of the country to the other, from the jagged spine of the Southern Alps to the West, right across the patchwork of pastureland to the Pacific Ocean on the East. Mt Hutt is Canterbury’s own “big mountain” with runs to accommodate families on a fun day in the snow, as well as the variety it takes to entice even the hottest skiers and snowboarders.

The ski resort is a 30 minute drive from the town of Methven, a friendly alpine village with lots of accommodation on offer. Methven is very affordable and only an hour from Christchurch, which means it is easy to access and there are many cheap flights on offer.

The ‘Opuke Thermal Pools and Spa’ in the town of Methven is currently under construction, due to open in Winter 2021. It will offer a a traditional hot pool experience. The pools will incorporate passive fun features such as; rocks to climb, alcoves and caves to explore and overlook a soft play island that contains interactive water features surrounded by a lazy river. There will also be a private ‘adult exclusive’ spa experience and a spa therapies available.
